The Tricolor Beech (Fagus sylvatica ‘Roseomarginata’) is a small- to medium-sized ornamental accent tree. It has a very appealing oval form but is known for its brilliant variegated leaves. In the spring, the leaves emerge purple with pink margins and mature to bronze-green with pink and white margins through the season. In the fall, the foliage turns to gold-bronze. It has gray, thin, smooth bark that stands out in the winter time.  \n \nThe Tricolor Beech originated in France before 1870. It differs from the European Beech in its very colorful and showy leaves and smaller size. This tree makes a stunning specimen standing on its own and can give a colorful and unique look to any landscape in the warmer months and winter. It also lives quite long, up to 120 years, and can be a heritage tree for future generations. It grows best in full to partial sun and can withstand most soil types but prefers moist, well-drained soils (will not survive in very moist, poorly-drained soils).
