The Sun Valley Red Maple (Acer rubrum ‘Sun Valley’) is a small- to medium-sized ornamental tree with a very symmetrical and pleasing form. It is known for its uniform, densely branched, ovate crown and its beautiful transformation in the early fall from dark green to a sensational red. It tends to reach around 20 feet tall in the first 10 years and has the potential to reach up to 35 feet in maturity. This tree is a cross between red maple (Acer rubrum) cultivars Red Sunset and Autumn Flame.

\nThe Sun Valley Red Maple was selected by the US National Arboretum in 1982 as part of the US National Arboretum red maple research evaluation program. It requires little maintenance due to its natural uniform branching structure. A great choice for the yard as an aesthetically pleasing piece that brightens up the view in the fall and can provide a bit of shade. It grows well in partial to full sun and can grow in most soil types but does not have much tolerance to salt.
