The Summer Charm® Peking Lilac (Syringa pekinensis ‘Summer Charm’) is a small-sized flowering ornamental tree. Its upright and spreading growth habit gives it an attractive appearance. On top of just its pretty form, it also flowers heavily in late spring to early summer. The small cream-white clusters of flowers against the dark green foliage make it especially stunning as it starts to get hotter in early summer. The bark is highly ornamental, peeling amber bark that does very well in winter landscapes.
The Summer Charm® Peking Lilac has been in the trade for a while and was originally introduced by Bill Wandell. It has lasted so long in production because it is such a great ornamental piece. It looks great as a specimen in the yard standing on its own and will not disappoint with its year round beauty. Its wide spreading also makes it an adequate shade tree. In large gardens, the later flower bloom of this tree will extend the colorful appearance of the small landscape, not to mention bringing it significant interest in the winter with its pretty bark. It does best in full to partial sun and will grow in most soil conditions. Also drought tolerant.
