The Stribling Fruitless Mulberry (Morus alba ‘Stribling’) is a medium-sized fast-growing shade tree. It has a broad, rounded crown with a dense branching habit. Its foliage is large, glossy, dark green and turns a calming yellow in the fall. Its leaves are also unlike most Mulberry leaves– irregularly lobed and loosely resembling a Maple leaf. The bark is smooth and white-gray, appealing enough to provide some winter interest. This is another fruitless Mulberry cultivar, making it a lot less messy than the parent species.

The Stribling Fruitless Mulberry was selected in California by Stribling Nursery and put into commerce in 1952 by the California Nursery. This cultivar differs from other fruitless varieties with its deeply lobed and darker green leaves along with a slightly higher tolerance to the cold. It is a great choice as a shade tree in a park with its spreading canopy that does not produce messy fruits and appealing glossy green leaves. It is also used as a shade tree for a yard where conditions might typically be tough to grow trees. This tree prefers full sun and should be watered regularly. It is very adaptable to most soil types.
