The Streetspire® Oak (Quercus x bimundorum 'JFS-KW1QX') is a medium-sized columnar tree. It has a dense, narrow canopy of short upright branches with wide crotch angles that make this tree storm resistant. The leaves are lobed and handsome dark green throughout the spring and summer before turning beautiful shades of red-orange to red-bronze in the fall. Its growth rate is relatively quick.
The Streetspire® Oak is a J. Frank Schmidt & Son Co. introduction. It is similar to the Crimson Spire cultivar but it does not hold its dead leaves through the winter. This is an excellent choice for street planting due to its stunning fall color and pleasant upright form that does not need to be pruned for human traffic. Two of these trees planted on either side of an entryway in the yard also provide an attractive site. This tree is highly adaptable which makes it such a good street and easy yard tree. It does best in full sun and can grow in most soil types.
