The Saratoga Ginkgo (Ginkgo biloba ‘Saratoga’) is a medium-sized ornamental shade tree. It has a very nice symmetrical and pyramidal form with a strong, central leader and a dense, spreading branching habit. Like other male selections, it is desirable because it does not produce the distinctive smelly Ginkgo fruit. Its emerald green foliage turns a stunning yellow in the fall before its leaves drop all at once. The leaves are quite unique compared to other cultivars. ‘Saratoga’ sports longer, drooping leaves that almost resemble limp fish tails.

The Saratoga Ginkgo was introduced by the Saratoga Horticultural Foundation in 1975. This cultivar has a spectacular broad pyramidal form that makes it great for use as a shade tree. A great choice to be planted in the yard on its own as a specimen to provide summer shade and a beautiful fall appearance. It is a low-maintenance tree that is also quite adaptable. It does best in full sun and does not have a preference to soil type.
