The Pacific Sunset® Maple (Acer truncatum x platanoides ‘Warrenred’) is a medium-sized, fast-growing ornamental tree that is heat tolerant. It has an upright, oval-shaped form that is quite uniform and symmetrical, giving it a simple yet satisfying look. Its foliage accompanies its structure well with deep green leaves in the spring and summer and a magnificent shade of bright red in the fall. \n \nThe Pacific Sunset® Maple was developed by Keith Warren of J. Frank Schmidt & Sons Co. in Boring in Oregon and was released in 1989. It is a hybrid of Shantung Maple (Acer truncatum) and Norway Maple (Acer platanoides). The hybrid is very similar to its sister cultivar, ‘Norwegian Sunset®’ except this cultivar grows slightly shorter, has a brighter fall color, has a finer branch structure, and is more spreading. It does well in full sun and can withstand a variety of soil types and conditions.
