The Marley’s Pink® Parasol Japanese Snowbell (Stryax japonicus ‘JLWeeping’) is a small-sized flowering ornamental tree. It has a rounded, cascading form with a small, weeping canopy that sits atop the narrow central leader. In mid to late spring, delicate pink flowers emerge on the tree that have a subtle but sweet fragrance. These flowers are bell-shaped and hang from the ends of the branches below the upright, pointed, glossy green leaves. In the fall, the large leaves transform from green to beautiful shades of orange and yellow. In the winter, its attractive, dainty form provides an interesting sight during the cold months.
The Marley’s Pink® Parasol Japanese Snowbell was selected in 2002 in North Carolina at the J.C. Raulston Arboretum. It was selected for its vigorousness and darker, larger, and glossier leaves than the parent species. This tree looks fantastic in a garden setting with its small size, profuse flower bloom, stunning summer foliage, and impressive fall color. It can also be grown in a container and put on the porch for a nice accent piece. Does best in full to partial sun and needs rich, moist, acicidc, well-drained soil. It can be fussy about soil conditions so consider growing in a container.
