The Korean Maple (Acer pseudosieboldianum) is a small-sized ornamental tree native to Korea, China, and Russia that is known for its cold hardiness. In the spring, the rounded leaves emerge as dark green and are accompanied by small purple flowers. The leaves hold their color well throughout the summer (except in very hot and dry climates) before turning a glorious orange-red-yellow in the fall. \n \nThe Korean Maple stands upright and has a broad crown, sometimes extending wider than the tree’s height. It is a great, more cold tolerant substitute for a Japanese maple. This tree can grow directly in the garden or in a container. It does well in partial or full sun but will not thrive in hot, dry conditions and prefers moist, well-drained soil.
