The Katsura Tree (Cercidiphyllum japonicum) is a medium- to large-sized ornamental shade tree. It is known for its spectacular foliage color throughout the growing season. In the spring, the heart-shaped leaves emerge as red-purple before maturing into a handsome blue-green for the summer. In autumn, the blue-green foliage transforms into a stunning golden orange until they fall off for the winter. Its rounded pyramidal form also makes it a spectacle in the landscape.

The Katsura Tree is native to Japan and China and is one of the biggest hardwoods in Asia. Its decaying leaves smell like caramel/burnt sugar. This tree is a great option for yards or parks as a shade tree due to its attractive and arching form, brilliant foliage color, and broad canopy. It does best in full to partial sun and can withstand a variety of soil types but needs regular watering until they are established.
