John Pair Maple (Acer saccharum ‘John Pair’) is a small- to medium-sized tree known for its tolerance to heat and poor conditions. It gives off rich green foliage in the spring and summer which quickly turns to burnt orange and red in early fall. It is densely branched with an oval-shaped crown.  \n \nThe John Pair Maple was developed by Dr. John C. Pair himself at Kansas State University Research Center (now John C. Pair Center) in Wichita, Kansas. It was selected from a Caddo Maple seedling, a variety of Maple native to Oklahoma, making it drought- and wind-tolerant. Its dense branching and form also make it a great shade tree. It thrives in full sun and can withstand a variety of soil types.
