The Ivory Silk Japanese Tree Lilac (Syringa reticulata ‘Ivory Silk’) is a small-sized flowering ornamental tree. It has an attractive pyramidal form with a rounded crown and erect branches but what truly makes this tree stunning is its profusion of flowers. In late spring to early summer, 12” panicles of small white flowers erupt on the tree and last for about two weeks. It is a lovely sight with the cream-white flowers contrasting against the dark green ovate leaves. This tree also has a sightly winter appearance thanks to its reddish-brown bark.
The Ivory Silk Japanese Tree Lilac was introduced in 1973 by Sheridan Nurseries in Ontario, Canada. This cultivar is considered one of the best for its sturdy, compact, dense, and rounded form along with its heavy blooms starting at an early age. It is a great choice as a specimen plant in the yard near a patio or deck where its bloom can be admired. It also works well as a street tree and is drought resistant. Does best in full sun and grows well in medium moisture, well-drained soils.
