The Golden Chain Tree (Laburnum anagyroides) is a small-to medium-sized flowering ornamental tree. It has a very unique look when it blooms with its hanging twigs. The tree has an upright, spreading, low-branching form with gray-green, pendulous twigs. In mid to late spring, small, pea-like, beautiful yellow flowers open up after the leaves and hang from the upright main branches and pendulous twigs to create almost a showy, weeping like appearance during the bloom. The leaves are green and trifoliate with long stems and a smooth upper surface. The bark is also smooth and good-looking, making it a decent specimen during the winter months.

\nThe Golden Chain Tree is native to the mountains of central and southern Europe. This tree is a great option as a specimen tree in a small yard or garden and is sure to draw attention in the spring for its bright hanging flowers. It can also help balance out an area as a background plant. It is relatively low-maintenance, naturally losing its lower branches and able to grow in most soil types. Does best in full to partial sun and is not picky to soil conditions except waterlogged or heavy moisture.
