The Forest Green® Oak (Quercus frainetto ‘Schmidt’) is a large-sized shade tree. It has a fine form of dense upright branches, strong central trunk, and consistent oval, symmetrical shape that requires little pruning. Its foliage has 7-10 lobes and is a very shiny, dark green. In the fall, the leaves turn a pleasant copper brown. Its acorns are also produced in the fall and are one-half to one-third covered in a scaly cup.

The Forest Green® Oak was introduced in 1987 by J. Frank Schmidt & Sons Co.. This cultivar is known for its vigorous growth, nice foliage, and resistance to leaf spot. This tree is guaranteed to be a spectacular addition to the summer landscape with its lustrous foliage and brilliant form. Very little pruning needs make it a low-maintenance tree.

It works very well as a shade or accent tree either standing on its own or planted in groups in urban and rural environments. Its fall foliage is brown, which often is thought of to not provide a showy fall color but is actually quite striking. It does best in full sun and is adaptable to a wide range of both wet and dry conditions. Highly tolerant of urban pollution.
