Crusader® Thornless Cockspur Hawthorn

The Crusader® Thornless Cockspur Hawthorn (Crataegus crus-galli ‘Cruzam’) is a small- to medium-sized flowering tree. It typically blooms in mid-late spring, displaying white flowers with 5 petals that emerge in clusters. Following the flowers are the production of the red berries that cover the tree in an attractive display combined with the dark green foliage. It has a very dense branching habit with its limbs growing out horizontally from the short stout trunk. In the fall, the leaves turn a ravishing red.

The Crusader® Thornless Cockspur Hawthorn is a more compact cultivar of the thornless hawthorn trees. Its thornless attribute makes it more family-friendly and allows it to be suited to urban settings and gardens. It is a great choice as a shade tree and a specimen tree with its multiple seasons of ornamental interest. It is also a very adaptable tree and is tolerant of drought. It grows best in full sun but can also withstand partial sun and can grow in a variety of soil types.
