Cleveland Select Flowering Pear

The Cleveland Select Flowering Pear (Pyrus calleryana ‘Cleveland Select’) is a medium-sized ornamental flowering tree. It has a very nice form with a narrow, pyramidal canopy. In early spring, clusters of gleaming, fragrant white flowers emerge on the branches to create a stunning display. Dark green glossy foliage appears after the flowers fall and stay for the summer. In autumn, the leaves turn vibrant shades of red and purple and light up the landscape.

The Cleveland Select Flowering Pear was selected from a Callery Pear (Pyrus calleryana) street tree in Cleveland, Ohio. It was selected from the same tree as the cultivar ‘Chanticleer’ was. This cultivar was selected for its narrow, symmetrical growth rate and improved hardiness. The branches naturally form so uniformly that there is little need to ever prune the tree. It is planted as a street tree or in narrow spaces because it grows more up than out. Also can be lovely planted in a row of other flowering trees. This specimen will be sure to capture everyone's attention in early spring and fall. Does best in full sun and like moist, well-drained soils.
