The Autumn Gold Ginkgo (Ginkgo biloba ‘Autumn Gold’) is a medium-sized shade and fall color tree. It has a broad, pyramidal crown with a dense, upright branching habit that sometimes has thick rogue branches growing out from the trunk and makes the crown shape a bit more irregular. As the name suggests, this cultivar is known for its brilliant fall color, its unique fan-shaped green leaves turn a stunning golden-yellow and then drop all at once. Its aesthetically pleasing form makes its leafless silhouette quite nice in the winter.

The Autumn Gold Ginkgo was developed at the Saratoga Horticultural Foundation. This male cultivar is known for its appealing upright canopy and spectacular fall color. Since it is male, it does not produce any fruit which many believe to have a poor fragrance. It also is pest and disease resistant. This tree is a great choice as a showy shade tree in a park or yard. It can also be a very nice street tree but needs overhead room to grow. Gingko trees are also known to live for a very long time, up to 1000 years! They do best in full sun and can tolerate most soil types but prefers moist, well-drained soils.
