The Sunset Gold Honeylocust (Gleditsia triacanthos ‘Sungolzam’) is a medium-sized ornamental shade tree. In the spring, its leaves emerge as a joyful orange-bronze color and then matures to a handsome dark green for the summer. The pinnately compound, fern-like foliage transforms back to a similar shade of its spring color in the fall, a bright gold. This tree is fast-growing with an open and upright spreading canopy.
The Sunset Gold Honeylocust lends a delicate appearance to the landscape. Its open and rounded canopy is quite satisfying to look at in the spring with its bright foliage display. It can be planted on its own as a specimen tree with ornamental features in the spring and fall and can also do well planted with other Sunset Gold’s to provide a big showy display. This tree is low maintenance and thrives as a street tree with its appealing appearance and ability to grow in most soil types. It likes full sun and does not have a preference to soil type.
