The State Street® Maple (Acer miyabei ‘Morton) is a medium- to large-sized tree that is known for its durability and adaptability. Introduced by Chicagoland Grows and released by Morton Arboretum, this tree can be thought of as a hardier, more brute Hedge Maple (Acer campestre) due to their similar rough, corky bark and 5 lobed leaf shape. The State Street® Maple deviates with its stronger growth rate and ascending branch habit, making its mature size larger than the Hedge Maple. \n \nIts leaves stay thick and medium to dark green late into fall before changing into a gentle yellow-to-gold. This maple is more densely branched than most other maples and has a broad, uniform, pyramidal shape. Its large size and dense branches make it a great shade tree in a park or private yard, along with its adaptability to sun exposure and a variety of soil types.
