Presidential Gold® Ginkgo

The Presidential Gold® Ginkgo (Ginkgo biloba ‘The President’) is a medium- to large-sized shade tree. It is known for having full branching habits at a young age, and a wide-spreading, distinctly pyramidal crown when mature. Its standard green foliage that is distinctively fan-shaped like most Ginkgo’s turns a nice gold-yellow in the fall. Its strong central leader naturally grows tall and straight without maintenance. This adaptable tree is of ancient origin, with evidence suggesting that it lived as far back as the dinosaurs. \n \nThe Presidential Gold® Ginkgo was selected by Dr. Michael Dirr of J. Frank Schmidt & Sons Co.. Known for having introduced many popular cultivars, Dirr has succeeded again with this one. This cultivar maintains a straight central trunk better than others and has a consistently symmetrical crown with a pyramidal shape. It also tolerates urban pollution well and makes a great shade tree in a park or even on a large street where it has room for its canopy to stretch out. It will do just as well in a yard standing its own as a specimen shade tree with its great fall color. It grows best in full sunlight and can tolerate most soil types.
