The Magyar Ginkgo (Ginkgo biloba ‘Magyar’) is a medium-sized, fast-growing shade tree. It is known for its spectacular form and growth habit. Upright with a strong central leader, it has a narrowish form but is broader than columnar. It is very tolerant of pollution, making it a great option as a city tree. It has the distinctive, fan-shaped Ginkgo leaves that are bright green in the spring and summer and turn a gorgeous yellow in the fall.

The Magyar Ginkgo was discovered in New Brunswick, New Jersey. This cultivar is known for its upright but not too narrow form, moderate drought tolerance, and fast-growing ability. It is a great choice as a city tree on a street that has some room for its canopy to grow up and out a bit and also is well-suited for alleys in parks when planted in groups. In yards, it is broad enough to provide adequate shade in the summer.  It does best in full to partial sun and can withstand a variety of soil conditions.
