The Lollipop® Crabapple sproutfree™ (Malus ‘Lollizam’) is a small-sized flowering ornamental tree. In the spring, it has a dazzling display of flowers that undeniably light up the landscape. They come on before the leaves and completely cover the branches in fragrant, white, cloud-like flowers that appear in clusters to create an unforgettable spring scene. The blossoms are followed by the emergence of the dark green foliage that turns yellow in the fall. Also in the fall is the ripening of the small showy red fruit that lasts on the tree after the leaves drop and attract species of birds. The tree’s dense and rounded canopy is nicely placed atop a straight trunk.
The Lollipop® Crabapple sproutfree™ was introduced in 2000. It is a unique cultivar in its small size and profuse bloom. It is an excellent option as a specimen tree for the yard or near the patio where people can see its flowers. It is also small enough to be put in the garden as an accent tree. It attracts both birds and pollinators and is relatively low maintenance with minimal pruning required to keep its pretty form. This tree grows in a variety of soil types, though it prefers slightly acidic and moist soils. Does best in full sun.
