The Heartland® Catalpa (Catalpa speciosa ‘Hiwatha 2’) is a medium-sized ornamental tree. It has a narrow form with an upright, uniform branching habit. A beautiful bloom of flowers come on in late spring after the large, dark green leaves emerge. These distinctive clustered flowers are white and trump-shaped with a yellow-gold center and spots of purple. They also give off a subtle fragrance.

\nThe Heartland® Catalpa was introduced by J. Frank Schmidt and Son Co. This cultivar was selected for its darker green leaves, narrower form, and more upright and symmetrical branching habit. This makes it more suitable for street use or along pathways because the upright branching system requires minimal pruning of its lower branches. Any landscape could do with this attractive formed and flowering tree. It does best in full or partial sun and is adaptable to most growing conditions.
