The Green Mountain® Sugar Maple (Acer saccharum ‘Green Mountain’) is a medium- to large-sized fast-growing ornamental tree. These maple trees are in abundance in the wild throughout New England forests and are a staple to the classic New England fall foliage in autumn. It has a pyramidal shape and a rounded crown and is not as vigorous of a grower as its fellow cultivar, Fall Fiesta Sugar Maple. In the spring and summer, the 3-5 lobed leaves are a pleasant green and have a leathery texture. In the fall they brighten up into a marvelous burnt orange or red.  \n \nThe Green Mountain® Sugar Maple selected by William Flemer III of Princeton Nurseries in New Jersey. It is a great choice for a yard but may not be the best in an urban/city environment because it is not super tolerant of urban pollution. It can be a sight to behold on its own, or in a mass of other trees as it will certainly pop out in the fall with its brilliant color. It grows well in partial or full sun and can withstand a variety of soil types but its leaves run the risk of scorching in the summer if it is left in very dry soil in hotter climates.
