Eye Stopper™ Cork Tree

The Eye Stopper™ Cork Tree (Phellodendron lavallei ‘Longenecker’) is a medium-sized shade tree. It has a very aesthetically pleasing form, more narrow and upright in youth with the branches spreading and forming a rounded, open crown as it matures. The canopy is made up of pointed compound leaves that are glossy dark green in the spring and summer before turning a bright yellow in the fall. Its gray bark is also quite impressive in the winter landscape with its ridged, warty and corky texture. 

The Eye Stopper™ Cork Tree was selected from the Longenecker Gardens at the University of Wisconsin. It is considered ornamental for its vivid yellow leaves in the fall, elegant form, and corky bark. This cultivar is known to have the clearest and brightest fall foliage. This tree does great as a specimen shade tree on its own in parks and yards or can be balanced by other trees of different textures. Excellent in fall foliage group plantings. It is also a highly adaptable tree, able to grow in most soil types and live in both wet and dry conditions, including moderate flooding. It does best in full sun.  \n \n
