The Eddie’s White Wonder Dogwood (Cornus ‘Eddie’s White Wonder’) is a small-sized ornamental flowering tree. It blooms in early spring, sporting stunning 4-inch white flowers that cover the bare branches before the foliage comes on which accentuates the bloom. This tree also has an attractive form, with a somewhat narrow frame and layered branching habit to make sure all the flowers on the tree are visible. Dark green leaves cover the tree after the bloom, giving it a handsome look throughout the summer. In the summer, this handsome foliage turns to a striking reddish color before falling off for the winter.
The Eddie’s White Wonder Dogwood is a hybrid of the Flowering Dogwood (Cornus florida) and the Pacific Dogwood (Cornus nuttallii). It was developed by Henry M. Eddie in Vancouver, British Columbia. It has been commercially grown since 1955 and was patented in 1964. This cultivar is unique in its larger size, larger flowers, and improved adaptability and vigorous growth habits. It is a great choice in a yard or park as a beautiful ornamental piece and pollinator attractor. It does best in partial to full sun and prefers moist, well-drained soils.
