Dura Heat® River Birch

The Dura Heat® River Birch (Betula nigra ‘BNMTF’) is a medium sized, fast-growing ornamental tree. It has an upright, dense, cone-shaped form made up of smaller, leathery, dark glossy green foliage that are arranged close together, giving it the ability to provide adequate shade. The foliage turns to a soft yellow in autumn before falling off and uncovering the terrific, cream-orange exfoliating bark that is a striking site during the bleak winter months.

The Dura Heat® River Birch (Betula nigra ‘BNMTF’) is a selection from Georgia. It is unique from its parent species in its increased growth rate (relatively similar to parent species when grown in shade but very rapid when in full sun), smaller and more leathery foliage, improved heat and drought tolerance, and improved resistance to pests and disease. This tree is a great option for a garden, yard or park, standing alone due to its fine appearance or as a shade tree. It does well in full to partial sun and does not have a preference to soil type but prefers soils on the moister side.
