The Crimson Sunset® Maple (Acer truncatum x platanoides ‘JFS-KW202’) is a medium-sized, extremely heat tolerant ornamental tree. This maple is known for its purple star-shaped leaves that can bear more heat and sun exposure than any other purple-leafed tree. The deep purple foliage will keep its color throughout the summer (even in hotter climates) and starts to light up in autumn, turning a handsome maroon early in the season and later into red-bronze before the leaves fall for the winter.  \n \nThe Crimson Sunset® Maple was selected by J. Frank Schmidt & Son Co. and is a hybrid of a Shantung Maple (Acer truncatum) and a Norway Maple (Acer platanoides). It is very similar to a Crimson King Norway Maple except it has a more compact and upright form and the heat tolerance of a Shantung Maple. A low maintenance tree, it is a great choice for a smaller yard due to its encapsulating ornamental features, ability to provide shade, charming form, and low requirement of care. It does best in full sun and can grow in nearly all conditions but should be planted in well-drained soil.
