China Snow® Peking Lilac

The China Snow® Peking Lilac (Syringa pekinensis ‘Morton’) is a small-sized flowering ornamental tree. Its form is quite elegant with a distinctive rounded, open, upright habit. In June, gorgeous, white flowers burst from their buds and light up the early summer landscape. The flowers are small and appear in big bunches which contrast very nicely against the dark green foliage. These leaves are somewhat glossy and can hold their color well throughout the summer. The bark makes this tree a hard one to miss during the winter with its exfoliating amber bark.  

The China Snow® Peking Lilac was selected from the Morton Arboretum. The original tree it was selected from was grown from seed brought over from Gansu province, China by Joseph Rock in 1926. On top of its ornamental value it is also very adaptable as it is tolerant of drought, cold, and salt. It is a great choice as an urban tree in places like parking lots, streets and parks. It also is a very captivating specimen tree for the yard and will not fail to attract attention in all four seasons. Does best in full sun and prefers moist, well-draining soil but can do well in most planting conditions.
