The Chanticleer® Flowering Pear (Pyrus calleryana ‘Glens Form’) is a medium-sized flowering ornamental tree. It has a dazzling display of small white flowers that emerge in clusters in early spring to welcome the growing season. After the flowers fall the glossy, ovate, dark green foliage comes on and stays for the summer. In the fall, the leaves show an impressive display of purples and reds. It has an attractive form of upright branches that shape a narrow, pyramidal canopy.
The Chanticleer® Flowering Pear was selected from a Callery Pear (Pyrus calleryana) street tree in Cleveland, Ohio. It was selected from the same tree as the cultivar ‘Cleveland Select’ was. This tree is a great option as a specimen to stand alone in the yard or planted in groups. It looks especially good when planted in rows. It can also be a nice street tree due to its upright form. It does best in full sun and likes moist, well-drained soils.
