The Azurri Blue Satin® Rose of Sharon Tree Form (Hibiscus syriacus 'DVPazurri' USPP 20,563) is a very small-sized ornamental flowering tree. It is renowned for its excellent flowers that bloom in midsummer all the way to fall. These rich blue flowers last about one day each and have an almost perfect appearance, appearing in singles with a white center bordered by a deep purple to maroon and light purple, flaky petals. They stand out especially well backed by its broadly ovate green foliage. This cultivar is also seedless, so no messy dispersal of seeds to worry about.
The Azurri Blue Satin® Rose of Sharon Tree Form does great in multiple places in the yard. Plant them as a shrub border for a showy and pronounced summer bloom or as an ornamental hedge screen. Its flower color is quite unique, so no matter where it is planted, it will be sure to catch the eye. It also is fairly cold hardy, especially for such a vibrant flower, and can tolerate some heat too. It does best in full to partial sun but really should be planted in full sun for a great bloom color. It does not have a specific preference to soil type but soil should be kept moist in the summer heat.
