The Autumn Splendor Horsechestnut (Aesculus x arnoldiana ‘Autumn Splendor’) is a medium-sized ornamental tree. It has a dense, rounded crown of shiny emerald, compound leaves consisting of 5-7 leaflets. It has ornamental value in both the spring and fall. Beautiful yellow flowers bloom later in the spring, emphasized against its dark green foliage. In autumn, the leaves turn an elegant shade of dark red-purple. It is also resistant to leaf scorch.  \n \nThe Autumn Splendor Horsechestnut is a hybrid between an Ohio Buckeye (Aesculus glabra), Red Buckeye (Aesculus pavia), and Yellow Buckeye (Aesculus flava). It was first discovered after appearing spontaneously in the Arnold Arboretum in Boston, Massachusetts. It was observed for over 20 years before being introduced by the University of Minnesota. This tree is a good choice for your yard or any type of garden due to its ornamental value and manageable size. It does well in full or partial sun and does not have a particular preference to soil type but is not tolerant to drought and requires somewhat moist conditions when in hotter, drier climates.
